לוד הדגימה את הבעיה. מי בעל הבית ומי האורח
I promised a follow-up post about the encounter with the police who were called in to "protect" someone who threatened to burn our car in Lod. Immediately after the moment of the threat documented in the previous video, the police hotline received a complaint from the Arab resident who claimed that we were disturbing him. No less. A man threatens to burn a car - and the police rush to us. Within a few minutes, a patrol officer arrived at the scene. The encounter ended in good spirits, but it began in a crooked way that well symbolizes the depth of the problem: Instead of inquiring with the person who made the threat, the police officer first turned to us - to inquire "what we are doing here" and why we had come to disturb good order (to hear and not to believe!)... We explained to her quietly, but standing up straight: We are citizens of this country. We are visiting an Israeli city. There is no law that allows someone to define public spaces in the State of Israel as their private territory and threaten us, as if we had invaded their living room. Later, more senior officers arrived. The conversation was already conducted differently: businesslike, respectful, and above all - aware of the complex reality in Lod. The difference between the beginning of the event and its end emphasized once again how essential a clear sense of justice on the ground is, and how much we currently lack a police force that feels confident in standing behind the citizens of the country and not behind those who threaten them. I thank the police who ended the event in a good spirit. But make no mistake: The fact that the police were sent to us and not to the one who threatens is a picture of a situation of deep moral distortion. This is exactly what happens when the country loses its identity and the sense of justice from which governance stems. Wherever we continue to appear - we will clarify the truth: This is our country. No one can allow or prohibit Jews from moving around in it. Watch and share. There is something to see and, above all, there is something to fix.
