AFTERMATH of Türkiye Earthquake: Recovery and Response Efforts

In June 2026, we reflect on the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes that struck southeastern Türkiye in February 2023. These earthquakes resulted in over 53,000 fatalities, 107,000 injuries, and the displacement of 3 million people, affecting 15.7 million individuals, including 1.8 million Syrian refugees. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched a CHF 750 million Emergency Appeal to support the Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) in providing essential services such as shelter, health care, food security, and psychosocial support. The TRC mobilized its network to assist 1.34 million people, while the IFRC coordinated a comprehensive response across six provinces. This video evaluates the ongoing recovery efforts, highlights best practices, and discusses the challenges faced in rebuilding communities and restoring livelihoods. Join us as we delve into the resilience of the affected regions and the collaborative efforts to support recovery.
