Welcome to "1000 Ways to Hypnotize," the series that shows you a different hypnosis induction in each installment, performed from beginning to end. NOTE: This is not a tutorial. The induction is only described here in its most basic aspects; its theoretical foundations are not explained, nor are the keys to its practical application explored. If your goal is to learn hypnosis, I recommend attending a specialized course. In the context of hypnosis, the word "induction" refers to a set of more or less standardized steps—ritualized, some would say—through which the beginning of what we know as a hypnotic trance is formally established. To put it more simply: induction is the procedure that hypnotists use to bring a person into that trance state. There are a great many different inductions. This time I'm going to show you one of the most classic, well-known, and widespread hypnosis inductions in popular culture, as well as one of the most shrouded in mysticism and legend: fascination through the gaze. Many other fixation techniques exist (with shiny objects, lights, a moving spiral, etc.), but without a doubt, using the hypnotist's own eyes as the focus of attention imbues this ritual act we call induction with a special personal charge, since we naturally associate the gaze with a person's most authentic character, and a fixed, direct gaze with sincerity and intimacy. In the past, when authoritarian forms of hypnosis were much more prevalent than they are today, there was a strong emphasis on the hypnotist developing a powerful gaze, one that displayed a strong and dominant personality. These kinds of imposing gazes were—and still are in many cases—particularly powerful for this type of hypnosis, as they tend to produce a feeling of intimidation and genuine helplessness in the predisposed subject. Of course, in this video, I'm showing you a much more friendly variation of gaze induction.
