Bunyip Animatronic’s FULL Story

The backstory of Australia’s infamous Bert/Bertha & baby Oscar animatronics! Along with the Bunyip brothers- the Ettamogah Bunyip, Big Banana’s “Billabong” Bunyip, the VERY rare Crawborough Boating Lake Bunyip, and Bertha's LONG LOST brothers! For over 50 years, Bertha has HAUNTED visitors of the Murray river. Moreover, the Bunyip has become a SUBMECHANOPHOBIA ICON, (the fear of artificial [man made] objects that are partially or entirely submerged underwater), after being posted online, more than 15 years ago. Many of the Bunyip's visitors & digital speculators wanting to know where, and how the creation even came alive to begin with. After several DEEP dives into old archives, newspapers, now unavailable websites, and of course- information with the help of my fellow animatronic fans, I’ve pulled together this FULL historical breakdown! The sightings of the mythical Bunyip animatronics taking place in: Sturt Reserve Rd, Murray Bridge SA 5253, Australia (Bert, Bertha, & Baby Oscar) Hired by the city of Murray Bridge in 1972, in anticipation of the annual Weerama Festival (celebration of Australia Day), inventor & fiberglass operator Dennis Newell created the Bunyip animatronic. With the long time plan of opening a mythical-creature themed amusement park called “Dreamtime Land”, Dennis Newell created the Murray Bridge Bunyip’s brothers. Oz.E. Wildlife Sanctuary at 629 Wagga Rd, Ettamogah NSW 2640, Australia (The Ettamogah Bunyip, 1974-2002) Adelaide Festival at King William Street, Adelaide SA, 5000, Australia (The Bunyip Children’s Theater, 1972-?) The Murray Bridge Bunyip’s Long Lost Older Brothers These animatronics were built two years before Bert’s attraction was made, most likely demolished shortly before Bert’s creation. So, Bert was NOT the first Bunyip built by Dennis Newell. The Big Banana Fun Park at 351 Pacific Highway, Coffs Harbour, NSW 2450, Australia (The Billabong Bunyip on Monorail Ride, 1989-2005) Crowborough Model Boat Club at A26, East Sussex, TN6 2GP, United Kingdom (The Crowborough Bunyip, 2023-???) _____________________________________ Spin-off video of “ABANDONED Animatronics II: SUBMERGED”:    • ABANDONED Animatronics II: SUBMERGED   SUBMERGED main theme provided by Power Music Factory:    • [mysterious music no copyright]Dark Myster...   HUGE thank you to @AM22trainsandthings for always checking up & updating us animatronic fans on Bertha!
