An Introduction to Worm Farms
An in-depth look at the basics of worm farms. A Worm Farm has 3 Layers. A Liquid Tray, A Resting Tray’s, and A Feeder Tray. The Liquid Tray collects the liquid run off from the vermicomposting process. Is short - It’s worm urine. Often called ‘worm tea’. An amazing liquid fertiliser for your plants and garden. The Resting Trays are the layers of your worm farm where the worm’s deposit worm castings (poop). Once the trays are full, you can harvest the worm castings to add to your potting mix or spread them across your garden bed. The Feeder Tray is where you will deposit your kitchen scraps for the worms to eat. Dont forget to cover your worm food to simulate the leaf litter of the forest floor. The Best location for a worm farm is somewhere with a consistent temperature. A cool, shaded are out of direct sunlight is best. Too hot or too cold will compromise your worm colony. The worms will eat a mix of kitchen scraps and paper/cardboard. Keep the ratio of kitchen scraps and paper/cardboard to 50/50 and you shouldn’t have any problems. The worms of an established worm farm will eat a brick sized amount of food in 1 week (approx). I’ve been maintaining worm farms for about 6 years and currently have 4 established healthy worm farms. It’s a great way to feed your houseplants/garden while cutting down your kitchen/household waste. Thanks for watching.
