Set in near-future Chicago, a skilled hacker by the name of Aiden Pearce, who did a digital heist with his friend Damien Brinks on the Merlaut Hotel, is attacked by hitmen after someone traced his intrusion. The hitmen missed him and killed his neice Lena instead. Aiden uses his phone as a weapon—hijacking traffic lights, security feeds, bank accounts, and more—to manipulate the city itself as it is controlled by ctOS, a citywide operating system that links every device, camera, and infrastructure node to get his life back together.
