The BabyPing Baby Monitor - Crash Test Mom Reviews

The BabyPing digital baby monitor is supposed to let you watch your baby monitor from your smartphone or tablet whether you are home or away. I wanted to love it so badly, but I had a lot of issues with it. The monitor connects to your home Wi-Fi network to send the video footage to any iOS device. You pick up the signal with the BabyPing app. It's free in the app store, but the monitor itself costs $200.00. Click here for the BabyPing - http://amzn.to/12qwyVX THE GOOD Quality - the camera is capable of capturing full color, high quality but not high definition video and audio. The picture is very good...when it works. Mounting system - unlike the Withings digital monitor (see our review here [link]), this camera comes with a very good mounting system that can be kept out of reach of little hands. That's a perk, because my daughter has taken to throwing the Withings, and we've had to rig it away from the crib. THE NOT-SO-GOOD Connection issues - I think most of the issues have to do with the app, not the monitor. I could usually get a picture for a few minutes before getting an error. The monitor itself never lost the green indicator light, so I know it was connected but neither my phone nor my tablet could see it. This means that the app wasn't capable of the things that it purports to do, such as notify you when the baby cries or moves. It's also supposed to be capable of night reception, password protection, and the ability to log into your camera over 3 or 4G when you are outside of your home Wi-Fi network. Again, I wasn't able to reliably experience these things for longer than a few minutes at a time. Limited access - can't monitor more than one baby at a time, so if you want to use this app for multiple cameras/multiple babies, you're out of luck I think this monitor has a lot of potential, especially because the audio and video is so good when it does work. But the app needs to be updated. We reviewed it in the summer of 2013, so if you're considering this monitor at all, be sure there has been a significant app update before purchase. I can't really recommend this monitor yet or give it any badges, unfortunately, as much as I would like to.
