In 'The Deed of a Prayer Man', Rabbi Nachman tells a wonderful story about a country where your status is determined by your wealth. And those who are really rich are considered God, and those who are a little less are considered angels or stars, and those who are just middle class, 'just people,' and the poor are considered animals that are sacrificed to the deities of the rich. This wonderful story, when you delve into it, you see how far we are from there... What are the deep psychological roots of the consumer society? How is it related to personal development and how can we repair the enormous damage to the human soul, to its loneliness in the world, to constant stress, to relentless competition, to externals instead of internals, and more?
