30 Jahre DDR East Germany NVA Parade 1979

Audio of the live broadcast of the traditional honor parade of the National People's Army (NVA), the Border Troops, and the Felix Dzerzhinsky Guards Regiment, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the founding of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The parade was commanded by Major General Karl-Heinz Drews (born December 22, 1929), who served as City Commandant of East Berlin from September 1978 to December 1989. The parade was reviewed by Colonel General Horst Stechbarth (born April 13, 1925, died June 8, 2016), who served as Deputy Minister of National Defense in the GDR Council of Ministers and Chief of the NVA Land Forces from 1972 to 1989. On the reviewing stand were Erich Honecker, General Secretary of the SED Central Committee, Chairman of the GDR State Council, and Chairman of the National Defense Council. Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, General Secretary of the CPSU and Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Heinz Hoffmann, Minister of National Defense. Willi Stoph, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the GDR. And other members of the Central Committee of the SED and the Politburo of the SED and the Council of Ministers of the GDR, as well as numerous international guests and members of the allied armies.
