During excavations in the historic Harput neighborhood, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, the approximately 15-meter-long secret passage, accessed via a 22-step staircase, bears traces of Roman architecture with its arched and vaulted structure. 📍 Excavation Director Prof. Dr. İsmail Aytaç: “We are working to open the area where the secret passageway is located, the excavation and restoration of which we completed this year, to tourism. We plan to open the ‘1000-year-old industrial site’ to visitors in 2026.” The secret passageway will be covered with tempered glass to allow visitors to see the structure more closely.
