On July 7, 2026, the Hungarian public broadcaster M1 unexpectedly suspended its programming. Starting at 4:00 p.m., instead of the news, viewers saw only a text message with an apology stating that public media should not lie and that they had been doing so for too long. The background to this is the political change in Hungary: In May, Péter Magyar had taken over the office of prime minister from Viktor Orbán. The text message remained on the air until 7:56 p.m., after which M1 resumed operations, though initially with movies instead of the originally planned programming.
