Brasil y China firman para construir tren bioceánico que conectará con el Puerto de Chancay

Brazil and China formalized a strategic agreement to conduct feasibility studies for a bi-oceanic railway that would connect the Brazilian port of Ilhéus (Bahia) with the Peruvian port of Chancay. This megaproject seeks to create a direct logistics route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, reducing dependence on the Panama Canal and boosting trade with Asia. The China State Railway Group will lead the technical, economic, social, and environmental studies. The route would cross several Brazilian states and culminate in the new Chancay megaport, key for the export of Brazilian products. The project, part of Brazil's infrastructure program and growing China-Latin America cooperation, excludes Bolivia—which was promoting an alternative corridor—for technical and political reasons. The initiative faces environmental and social challenges as it crosses the Amazon and Indigenous territories, but represents a large-scale strategic commitment. If implemented, it will transform the regional geoeconomy, integrate Brazil and Peru as a logistics hub, and strengthen China's role in South America.
