It stands on one of the oldest roads in Italy, joining the river Tiber and Lake Bolsena. The ancient town of Civita was accessed through five doors, while today only the door known as Santa Maria or della Cava is the main one The urban structure of the entire inhabited area is of Etruscan origin, consisting of cardi and decumani according to the Etruscan and then Roman use, while the entire architectural covering is medieval and Renaissance. There are numerous testimonies of the Etruscan phase of Civita; in fact a small Etruscan necropolis has been found on the cliff below the viewpoint of San Francesco Vecchio. Also the cave of San Bonaventura, in which it is said that San Francesco healed the little Giovanni Fidanza, who later became San Bonaventura, is actually an Etruscan chamber tomb. The Etruscans made Civita (whose ancient name we do not know) a thriving city, favored by its strategic position for trade, thanks to its proximity to the most important communication routes of the time. Many testimonies of the Etruscan period remain: of particular suggestion is the so-called โBucaioneโ, a deep tunnel that cuts through the lower part of the town, and which allows access, directly from the town, to the Valley of the Calanchi. In the past, many chamber tombs were also visible, dug at the base of the cliff of Civita and the other neighboring tuff walls which, over the centuries, were largely swallowed up by the countless landslides. Moreover, the Etruscans themselves had to face the problems of seismicity and instability in the area, which in 280 BC. they materialized in earthquakes and landslides. Upon the arrival of the Romans, in 265 BC, the impressive works of channeling rainwater and containing streams started by the Etruscans were resumed. The problem of erosion was already very important at the time of the Etruscans. Then they put in place some works that had the precise purpose of protecting Civita from earthquakes and landslides, damming rivers and building drainage channels for the correct flow of rainwater. The Romans resumed the works of their predecessors, but later of them these were neglected and the territory underwent a rapid deterioration which eventually led to the abandonment of the Civita. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ๐ป ๐ง๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ป 0:00 - Brief intro preview 1:02 - Civita di Bagnoregio walking tour starts 4:09 - Gate St. Mary 9:05 - Piazza San Donato (main square) 10:06 - Church of St.Donato (tour inside) 12:53 - Very cute backalley 14:44 - Via Porta Santa Maria 19:16 - Via Madonna della Maestร and all the small alleys nearby 27:57 - Piazza San Donato 28:37 - Discovering the small alleys on the northern-western part of the town 36:30 - Piazza San Donato ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ = ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ ๐๐ป๐ฎ๐ณ๐ถ ๐๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ธ - Buy it! https://amzn.to/3nWyEe8 ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ = ๐๐๐ ๐ข๐๐บ๐ผ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ - Buyt it! https://amzn.to/2M3uwut ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ญ๐ข๐๐ค ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐จ - Buy it! https://amzn.to/3rpISpv ๐ช๐ฎ๐น๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐ต๐ผ๐ฒ๐ = ๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐น ๐ ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป - Buy it! https://amzn.to/3pnvccD Song info Source: Artist: Roman Senyk #walkingtour #Civita #treadmill #virtualtour #virtual #walking #walk #drone #4k #walks #tour #italy #tours #random #europe #bagnoregio #lazio #bagnoregio #lazio #civitadibagnoregio
