North Yorkshire round ride. Rosedale.

A solo ride passing through Great Ayton with the famous Roseberry Topping and on towards the Young Ralph Cross before descending into Rosedale, North Yorkshire. Leaving Rosedale via the Chimney bank and stopping for coffee at the Remains of the old ironstone roasting kilns at Bank Top. Heading home via Hutton le Hole, Helmsley and following the famous Helmsley TT, ending the ride as I pass Stokesley. About Young Ralph Cross: Named to distinguish it from Old Ralph Cross, about 200 yards to the south west. The ‘Old’ cross is much smaller at roughly five feet high. It is thought to date to the 13th century and is said to be a memorial to Ralph de Irton, the Prior of Guisborough from 1262, who was elected Bishop of Carlisle in 1280. About Rosedale Chimney: A hill pass that carries a minor road between Rosedale Abbey and Hutton-le-Hole in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire Moors. It shares the title of steepest road in England (the other is Hardknott Pass in Cumbria). The pass has an average gradient of 13%, with a maximum gradient of 1 in 3 (about 33%) and climbs 568 feet (173 m) on its 0.81 mile (1.3km). route. It takes it name form a 100-foot (30m) high chimney which was built to support the ironstone mine which was in that area. The mine closed in 1929, but its chimney remained until it was demolished on 28 July 1972. Voice over due to technical issues.
