Could Megalodon Survive in Subnautica? | The Shark Leviathan
Could Megalodon Survive in Subnautica? Otodus megalodon, or “The Meg” if you’re Jason Statham, was the biggest definitive macropredator in Earth’s history. This Neogene super-shark ate other apex predators, like raptorial whales, leading to a trophic level that no modern carnivores even approach. Megalodon fossils have been found all over the world and captivated human imagination, inspiring equal parts awe and terror. But how would Earth’s ultimate marine carnivore fare as a big fish in a much, much bigger pond? We’re placing The Meg in the world of Subnautica, Planet 4546B, focusing on the Crater environments of the first game. This alien sphere is almost entirely covered by ocean, and is home to a wide array of competing creatures. For the purposes of this video, the invading force is composed of twenty breeding adults, ten males and ten females. Most of these adults are in the 20-30 tonne range, comparable to humpback whales, with a couple Yellowstone Hyperpredator-class individuals that push 23-24 meters and 90-100 tonnes. We’ll be using the reconstruction based on Shimada et al. 2025, a new paper arguing for an elongated, slim build for the megatooth shark. It’s on the controversial side, but was written by people who know a heck of a lot more about shark biology than I do. Remember that this could change in the future and likely will. We’ll go through the Crater’s biomes and analyze how the Otodus population would adapt to their new Home, find enough food for their endless Hunger, and defend against the Hanger of native predators and competitors. And yes, There will be Megalodon variants. Stop foaming at the mouth. 00:00: Otodus megalodon background information 01:36: Safe Shallows and Kelp Forests 02:32: Grassy Plateaus 03:24: Grand Reef 05:26: Dunes 06:08: Mushroom Forests 06:56: Sparse Reefs 07:55: Thrive or Eaten Alive Score 09:20: Gnasher Leviathan 10:27: Cave Leviathan 11:10: Ragnarok Leviathan Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/danijel-zambo/bo...
