In this physiology video lesson, we'll cover the entire contractile process of skeletal striated muscle, explaining in detail how muscles, muscle fibers, myofibrils, and sarcomeres are formed, and explaining the nature of each of these structures. We'll also explain the general process of muscle contraction, from the initiation of the action potential by the nerve endings of the motor neuron to the release of calcium by the sarcoplasmic reticulum. I'll also discuss the crucial proteins in this contractile process, known as actin and myosin.
