Sumter Today: 29th Annual Black Cowboy Festival!

The 29th-annual Black Cowboy Festival at Greenfield Farms was in full effect on Saturday, May 23, as the rodeo, one of the weekend's biggest attractions, drew crowds from across the country. Hundreds traveled from all 50 states to watch barrel racing, hog tying, pole racing and crowd-favorite bucking horse riding. Vendors filled the grounds selling food, leather goods and cold beverages while the DJ and emcee kept the crowd smiling and dancing. Sandra Myers, who organizes the event alongside her husband, Mark Myers, said the festival is about more than cowboy culture. She said it also serves as a celebration of African American history, heritage and tradition. From Studio Sumter in Sumter, South Carolina. Copyright The Sumter Item.
