Mini shorts, also known as "short shorts" or tight, revealing shorts, began to become popular in the 60s and 70s as part of the cultural and fashion revolution that sought to liberate the body and challenge traditional norms. The swaying anatomies abound all around us, the streets of the Czech Republic are a real feast for the eyes. Mini shorts have their roots in the same movement that popularized miniskirts, led by designers such as Mary Quant in London in the 60s. They were initially worn at casual and holiday events, becoming associated with youth fashion. For some reason that has not ceased to attract our attention, of all the countries we are visiting, it is here, in the Czech Republic, where this type of garment is most abundant today. In Eastern Europe, the use of minishorts is welcomed in casual and sporty contexts, although the level of acceptance may vary by location. Overall, generational change and global influence are making this garment more common and less controversial. In the 1970s, minishorts established themselves as a standout garment in the context of disco and casual style. They were popular in sunny states, such as California, where warm climates promoted their use. Minishorts began as a symbol of female liberation and personal expression. Over time, they went from being a controversial garment to a widely accepted fashion piece, especially in warm climates or during summers. The use of minishorts quickly spread to other countries as American pop culture, movies, and disco music of the 1970s had a global influence. In Western Europe, minishorts were adopted as part of summer fashion, while in countries with colder climates they were mainly worn during vacations. Today, minishorts are a common item of clothing around the world, worn by both women and men in sporty, casual and summer contexts. In Eastern Europe, wearing minishorts is still a common trend, especially in casual contexts and in warm climates. However, acceptance and popularity varies depending on the region, cultural norms and urban or rural context. In capitals such as Warsaw, Prague, Budapest or Vilnius, minishorts are a common item of clothing during the summer, mainly among young women but with no prohibition on older women. The influence of Western fashion and globalisation has made modern and daring styles, including minishorts, accepted at casual events and outdoor festivals. In tourist areas or cultural centres, it is common to see people wearing them in combination with contemporary styles. In more traditional towns and regions, such as parts of Poland, Ukraine or Belarus, wearing minishorts may be less common and in certain cases could be considered inappropriate in religious or conservative places. However, younger generations are embracing global fashion, which is narrowing these differences over time. Minishorts are very popular in sports activities, such as running or the gym, for both men and women. This use is widely accepted, regardless of the cultural context. Since Eastern Europe has cold winters, minishorts are most visible during spring and summer. In winter, they are often combined with tights or leggings, but are still used mostly for going out at night. The influence of social media, international fashion and global brands has normalized the use of minishorts, especially among young people.
