"Schau auf den Stern, schau auf Maria" – Predigt von Domkapitular Christoph Ohly

Canon Christoph Ohly emphasized in his sermon that the day's Gospel reading clearly illustrates the contrast between the Pharisees and Jesus Christ. While the Pharisees plotted his death, Christ turned to the sick and brought healing to humanity. Jesus' mission is clear: He is not deterred by opposition, but rather meets people with patience, compassion, and a focus on their inviolable dignity. This healing gaze of God is directed toward every person. Referring to the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, Ohly highlighted that Mary is never the center of attention, but always points to her Son. Her quiet faithfulness, her trust, and her confidence serve as a model for Christians in the conflicts of this world. He quoted Saint Bernard of Clairvaux: "When the storms of temptation arise, when you are running toward the cliffs of distress, look to the star, look to Mary." Mary leads the faithful to Christ and helps them to act with patience and compassion. "The Son of God did not come to bring strife, but salvation," Ohly said.
