Peeters, Flor (1943): Aria voor orgel, op. 51 — Marini

Composer: Franciscus Florentinus Peeters, Baron Peeters (4 July 1903 – 4 July 1986) Arranger: same as above Organist: Roberto Marini (born 19??) Organ: Johannes Klais Orgelbau, op. 750 (1930); Christus Koningkerk, Antwerp, Flanders, Belgium The famous Aria dates from the years of the Second World War. It originated in 1943 as the slow second movement of his Sonata in B♭ for trumpet and piano, op. 51 (   • Flor Peeters: Sonata (Emerson Head, trumpe...  ), which is still a permanent fixture on exam syllabi for aspiring young trumpeters. Peeters also arranged it for violin, for cello, and for solo organ. It is in the latter form that the piece is most often heard. Its expressive melody unfolds above an accompaniment of soft, repeated chords — a technique that the composer used to equally telling effect in the slow movement of the Organ Concerto, op. 52 (1944). As in so much of his finest work, there is a simplicity and sincerity in this music that speaks directly to one's heart.
