Come fly with me on a 140km flight to goal on board my Omega XAlps 3

Saturday 5th June 2021 - the forecast for the second day of the North South Cup was pretty good so a 140km task was set from Magic Mountain to Crewe, chosen because of its good rail links back to Abergavenny. It would however involve some cross-winding, and a combination of that, plus the increasing spreadout, meant that most pilots opted for an open XC flight in the directions of Sheffield, and a handful of pilots did indeed fly 200kms to Sheffield. A few of us stuck with Crewe but it was one of the most difficult flights I've ever done with the middle section in the Shropshire Hills very difficult under extensive spreadout as you'll see in the video... I was in the air for almost six hours, pretty slow going for 140kms, but it was definitely one of my most satisfying flights to date... It was a long flight, so forgive me making a long video - I've condensed 5:45hrs down to 50 mins, so I hope you get a feel for the mid-section struggle! The last few minutes are of an amusing chat with some locals - I'd put my helmet down and forgotten to turn the camera off! So grab a coffee or a couple of beers, sit back and fly with me over the Black Mountains, the Wye Valley, the Shropshire hills, and finally the flatlands between Telford and Crewe.
