Following the two World Wars and the creation of the Brazilian Air Force, a low academic level was observed among the cadets entering the then Aeronautics School in Campo dos Afonsos, Rio de Janeiro. Therefore, an institution was needed to properly train future cadets and, consequently, high-quality pilots. On March 21, 1949, the President of the Republic, Eurico Gaspar Dutra, created the Preparatory Course for Air Cadets within the Ministry of Aeronautics. The following year, the institution was renamed to its current name, becoming "CPCAr," a course taught by the Preparatory School for Air Cadets or EPCAr. Through its Preparatory Course, EPCAR prepares its students for entry into the Officer Aviator Training Course at the Air Force Academy in Pirassununga, São Paulo State. The course comprises the three years equivalent to the Ministry of Education's High School program, encompassing instruction in the scientific and military fields, taught under a boarding school regime, and annually offers 130 places (110 for males and 20 for females) to over 22,000 candidates through a competitive examination. Students who successfully complete the three-year course are entitled to a High School Graduation Certificate and guaranteed enrollment in the Air Force Academy, where, in addition to a Bachelor's degree in Military Sciences, they will be qualified in Military Aviation, that is, they will become pilots. This is provided, of course, that they meet the health, psychological, and physical conditioning requirements for admission to the AFA. Among the requirements for the admission exam to the School, which takes place every year, is that the candidate must be at least 14 years old and not turn 19 before December 31st of the year of enrollment in the course, i.e., the year following the exam. Both sexes can take the entrance exam, although there are generally more vacancies for men than women. In addition, candidates cannot have children or be married, and must have completed elementary school. The CPCAr Admission Exam is divided into 3 stages. The first stage consists of written exams, which include an assessment of Portuguese Language, Mathematics, and English Language, as well as an essay. Candidates who pass the written exams proceed to the Intermediate Concentration stage, where they undergo a Health Inspection, Psychological Aptitude Exam, and Physical Conditioning Assessment Test, all of which are eliminatory. The final stage is the Final Concentration stage, when all approved candidates are officially enrolled at EPCAr, where they will complete the Adaptation Internship. After 20 days, the trainees will become CPCAr students and active-duty military personnel, and will begin receiving the pay of a special enlisted soldier. During the course, the student is considered an active-duty member of the Brazilian Air Force, in the special rank category, entitled to salary, food, lodging, medical and dental care. The Military Student of the Air Force Cadet Preparatory School has the same hierarchical classification as a 3rd Sergeant, with precedence. Are you enjoying the video?
