Kat Schmolly I Zebra MD I Rare Disease

In this episode I chat with Dr. Kat Schmolly, Founder and CEO of Zebra MD — a company on a mission to close the diagnostic gap for the millions of patients living with rare diseases, often unseen and unheard for years before receiving a diagnosis. Zebra MD is building an AI-powered clinical decision support platform that integrates directly into electronic health records, alerting physicians at the point of care when a patient may have a rare or undiagnosed disease — and guiding them on exactly how to work it up and treat it. With over 10,000 rare diseases and a chronic shortage of specialists, Zebra MD is putting the right knowledge in the right hands, at the right moment. Kat Schmolly, Founder and CEO of Zebra MD is A physician-scientist trained in internal medicine and medical genetics at UCLA, she came to this work through a first-year hepatology lecture that stopped her in her tracks — a brief mention of a rare liver disease one that disproportionately affects women and is routinely dismissed as menstrual pain, instead of liver disease, a progressive one that can cause cancer, That moment of injustice lit a fire. Years of research, red tape, and a grant later, she's building the infrastructure to make sure no patient falls through the cracks again.
