LAMPIÃO O REI DO CANGAÇO NO COMBATE DAS CARAÍBAS

The Battle of Caraíbas, in Floresta, Pernambuco, was fought between Lampião, the King of Cangaço, and the Flying Forces on February 4, 1926, on the banks of the Maravilha Creek, a tributary of the Navio Creek, on the border between the municipalities of Floresta and Betânia. Participating were the Flying Forces commanded by Lieutenant Higino José Belarmino and Optato Gueiros, composed largely of Nazarenos, who, as everyone knows, were the greatest and most implacable enemies of the King of Cangaço throughout his life in cangaceiro. Along with Lampião was the notorious Manoel Pequeno (from the Saco farm – on the banks of the Navio Creek) and his group. The cangaceiros entrenched themselves in the creekbed and on a ridge along its banks, ambushing the Flying Force in open ground.
