YIXING TEAPOTS: The rare Jiangponi clay

Terminology: Yixing teaware comes from the area around a town of the same name in Jiangsu, China, where stone ores are mined, ground, and mixed with water to form a clay (and then sometimes even aged). While functionally similar, this is not to be confused with a natural riverbed clay. The unique properties of the stone allow solid, yet porous vessels to be constructed with a fine degree of precision, ideal for teapots—this is why Yixing ware is prized by tea lovers worldwide.
