It's still hot in the middle of late summer in Uchiura, Noto Peninsula. I set up a GoPro to shoot underwater video for drop-in fishing. Sardines were biting on the hooks. I dropped the sardines into the blue layer and waited for them to bite. I swallowed the sardine several times, but spat it out and didn't hook it. Then we dropped the sardines near the reef on the ocean floor and found a fish biting them! Yellowfinches! Not that big, but I got a Kijihata grouper over 30cm! After that, we kept dropping in, and the next hit was a bluefish that swallowed a whole sardine! It's a bluefish (yellowfin tuna) size, but you can feel the bluefish-like pull through the tip of the rod! We had a nice chat and got a blue one, a 52 cm snapper! As the later date rose, the bite started to fade away. When I put the sardine hook close to the reef, I saw the fish approaching the reef! Mahata! Mahata bites at the sardines again and again! And although I was hooked, the impact of the rooting hook came off and the mahata came off too. We fished in the heat of late August on a boat with no shade, so we finished before noon. We could experience the power of drop-in fishing, which can catch both bluefish and root fish. We will continue our adventure in search of an unknown giant fish.
