How to Propagate Sedums, How to Take Cuttings of Sedums Basically my front garden gets full sun for most of the day and sits permanently on the dry side. I am fed up of planting plants just to watch them struggle or die, and just want some more colour and interest. I already have some plants in the beds that thrive, Osteospermum and Sedum. I’m going to show 2 methods for propagating Sedums, tip cuttings and leaf cuttings. Both are really easy and give almost guaranteed success. Tools required; Secateurs- make sure they are clean Fresh compost, Pots or seedling trays. For tip cuttings. Take a section of around 2-3 inches in length (5-10cm) and make a clean cut just below a leaf joint, remove the lower 2 sets of leaves and then insert the cutting into the pot of moist compost. There is no need for the use of hormone rooting powder. For leaf cuttings. Literally pull the fresh leaves from the plant stem and insert the base of the leaf into a pot of fresh compost. Make sure the leaf is inserted to a depth of about 1cm into the pot of moist compost. For both methods.
