ASALAS WW#5 FLAG FOR MY FATHER - Memorial Day 2015
My father passed away on March 25, 2014. He taught me how to swing a hammer and always was a source of knowledge and inspiration when it came to building. He was also a WWII veteran that saw fighting in Okinawa, the Phillipines, and Saipan. He was very proud of his service and needless to say, I am proud of him too. He mentioned how he wanted to be buried in a pine box and building this flag case was my way of fulfilling that for him. I’m posting this in time for Memorial Day, 2015 to honor my Father’s service to our country and as my thank you to all of the other veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom. Thank you. Thanks to David Picciuto, the +Drunken Woodworker, for the great tip on building a spline jig to cut the miters in this flag case. He posted the right video at the right time. Please check his video here. Drunken Woodworker - How to Make a Spline Jig for Picture Frames and Boxes • How to Make a Spline Jig for Picture Frame... I milled some material from one of four huge oak trees that was from my dad’s ranch. It was his dream to retire underneath these trees and was appropriate to include in this build. Thanks to Izzy Swan for the great idea to safely mill the material. Please check his video here. +Izzy Swan – SIMPLE JIG!
