Conference on the incredible feat that culminated in the first circumnavigation of the world, carried out by Juan Sebastián Elcano, as part of the undertaking initiated by Magellan. Comprised of five ships, they departed from Sanlúcar de Barrameda on September 20, 1519. After months of exploring the American coast, they successfully crossed the Strait of Magellan on November 28, 1520. On their voyage across the Pacific, they reached the Philippine Islands, where Magellan died on April 27, 1521. The expedition continued sailing to the Moluccas, their final destination, and chose Juan Sebastián Elcano to captain the return voyage. Sailing westward across the Indian Ocean and around Africa, on September 6, 1522, the Victoria, the only ship remaining on the expedition, returned to Sanlúcar de Barrameda after an extraordinary epic journey with part of the cargo of spices they had captured, becoming the first vessel in history to circumnavigate the globe.
