In 1993, it made a complete U-turn, going from a decaying industrial city known as Little Chicago due to the violence in its streets to becoming an ecological and sustainable city, founding a university and attracting high-tech companies from around the world. Malmö is a multicultural city, where 38% of the population is of immigrant origin. Proof of this is its most famous resident, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, born in Malmö to Bosnian parents. By 2030, it will be powered entirely by renewable energy. 📍How to get from Copenhagen Airport to Malmö Trains depart every 20 minutes and make very few stops. The journey between Denmark and Sweden takes just under 45 minutes. The ticket costs 89 DKK (approximately €12) each way. After clearing baggage claim and customs, the ticket office and ticket machines are located on the right side of the arrivals hall. 📍Øresund Bridge The Øresund Bridge connects two countries and two cities: Copenhagen, the Danish capital, at one end; and Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city, at the other. It was built in 2000 and is 16 km long. It's actually a bridge-tunnel, as most of the Danish side is underwater. 📍Turning Torso At 190m tall, the Turning Torso is the tallest building in Scandinavia and the symbol of Malmö. It is currently the city's symbol and was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Caltatrava. 📍Västra Hamnen Neighborhood The Turning Torso is located in the Västra Hamnen neighborhood. This neighborhood was the city's former industrial port and has now been converted into a neighborhood powered 100% by renewable energy. 📍Stortorget Square (Main Square) This has been Malmö's main square since 1536 and is a historic symbol of the city. It houses the statue of King Karl X Gustav, who conquered the Scania region from the Danes. There are also many cafés where you can enjoy a drink, especially on the terraces that open in summer. 📍Lilla Torg Square (Lesser Square) Built in 1592, it's one of the starting points for exploring the city. There you can find countless restaurants, bars, and cafes, as well as designer shops, museums, and galleries.
