The Chartist movement was a mass working-class campaign for political reform in Britain that existed from 1838 to 1848. Named after the "People's Charter" of 1838, its goal was to gain political rights and influence for the working class in response to the limited voting rights granted by the 1832 Reform Act It Ultimately ended in Newport in tragedy where 20 or more people lost their lives in an act of Treason, however this would pave the way for democracy and rights we have today!
