I had been thinking about the Helmet/NIN Club Tour in 1995 and how there is not a single source out there from it and how 1996 had just a handful of showcase shows in September. I then thought about the Irving Plaza show. This recording was released about 20 years ago by ItsJustDave on ETS. Who owned the VHS tapes. The full showcase was transferred through a MiniDV camcorder and made available by DVD. I was hoping to preserve this in the best quality possible and I reached out to Dave if he was willing to let me borrow them. I found out that he had let them go a handful of years ago. But was still in contact with the person who he gave them to! He put me in contact with TS and they were happy to allow me to work on them! They sent them to me and I got to work. There are a total of 5 tapes. NIN was on 3/4/5. NIN's main set through Down In It on #3. The covers with Prick and PWEI on #4 and the encore of 'Something I Can Never Have' on #5. Not sure why they split them up like this. But nonetheless, quality. I did a few passes on the transfers of the VHS tapes. Ensuring good captures. The audio was clipping on tapes 4 & 5. Even when I turned my input down on the capture card, it seems as though these two tapes were brick walled slightly on the tapes themselves. I have tried to repair them as best as possible in audition, to pretty positive results. The hiss apparent on tapes 4/5 was also cleaned up with a very low hiss reduction. Listening to the output of just the noise removed, no music was eliminated from the recording. Again, very happy with the cleanup of the audio! The video is definitely upgraded. Clearer and some color correction was done on it. Again, very minor. You are now able to download the video on ninlive as this premieres on YouTube! The YouTube version is put to 4k in order to help with the harsh compression of YouTube. The file that is available on ninlive is the original video file and not altered because, well, there isn't any compression when you play it back! I am really happy to preserve this footage for posterity on ninlive. To my knowledge, these are the only tapes available from this small run of shows. I am not even sure there are more copies of these VHS tapes/show. These are literally the only ones I have seen and I am super grateful that TS and Dave made this happen.
