2026 ASU Gymnastics 70 Year Reunion Celebration Recap Men's and Women's Teams

Seven decades of Arizona State University men's and women's gymnastics came together the last weekend of May 2026 for an unforgettable reunion. Alumni, coaches, families, and supporters gathered in Tempe, Arizona to celebrate a program that has produced 26 team national championships, more than 28 individual national champions, over 220 All-Americans, six Olympians, and generations of goodwill ambassadors who have represented ASU and Arizona around the world. This 2-minute recap captures the heart of a weekend more than 20 years in the making — the first major ASU gymnastics alumni gathering in over two decades — with reflections from Sun Devil alumni across every era, footage from the events, and a closing moment when the entire room raised their voices together in the chant every Sun Devil knows by heart: "A-S… what?" "A-S-U!" The reunion honored the founding legacy of head coach Norris Steverson, ASU's first drafted professional football player, who started the ASU gymnastics program in 1955. It also honored Monica Sublette, Marie Bilski, John Spini, and Jay Santos as ASU women's team coaches. The accomplished ASU Women's Gymnastics team also celebrated multiple top 10 national finishes and four 2nd place titles. The reunion also celebrated the tenure of longtime head coach Don Robinson, who led the ASU men's program and directed the ASU women's program for 25 years before his passing in 2011 — building a roster of WAC championships, PAC-10 titles, two NCAA runner-up finishes, and the 1986 NCAA national championship. And it recognized 50 years of leadership from head coach Scott Barclay — Sun Devil athlete, assistant, head coach, and ASU Athletic Hall of Fame inductee — whose 33 years at the helm since 1993 have kept Arizona men's gymnastics thriving as one of the winningest programs in collegiate men's gymnastics, capturing its 26th team national championship in early May 2026. Members of the 1986 NCAA championship team returned to mark the 40th anniversary of that historic Sun Devil season. Attendees included ASU Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Scott Barclay and Jeri Cameron Vanyek, Olympians, national champions, All-Americans, USA team members, Olympic coaches, international judges, NBA Mascots and hundreds of ASU gymnastics alumni from every decade. The weekend also served as a memorial for beloved former coach Rob Survick, who passed away in January 2026 after a courageous battle with ALS.
