Investigating Balls
In Investigating Balls, preschool and toddler teachers describe how children engaged in a variety of art, science, and play activities while investigating the properties of balls. Children strengthened their language and math skills as they identified shapes and compared and classified attributes of different balls. They also explored cause and effect, cooperated with their peers to create games with balls, and gained a beginning understanding of physics and motion as they experimented with ramps. Winner of a 2013 Telly Award. This effort was part of the Investigations curriculum used by Eastern's Child and Family Development Resource Center (CFDRC), which is centered around engaging projects—called "investigations"—on topics that are selected by children, teachers, and families.
