She believes that Rose, the younger sister of apartment resident Lisa, holds the key to stopping Kayako’s evil due to her sensitivity to the supernatural Naoko attempts to enlist Lisa and Rose’s help, but Lisa initially refuses. Meanwhile, Max, Lisa and Rose’s brother and the building’s superintendent, becomes possessed by the vengeful spirit of Takeo Saeki, Kayako’s husband, and begins exhibiting violent behavior The climax involves Naoko performing rituals to try to end the curse, but the supernatural forces prove relentless.
