Mostowicz - English Version

In the small town of Kuty on the Cheremosh River, the memory of a man known to the entire world has been carefully preserved for over 85 years — Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz, the author of the legendary The Quack (Znachor), The Career of Nicodemus Dyzma, and many other novels that have become classics of Polish literature and have been repeatedly adapted for the screen. He was a true star of interwar Poland: a brilliant journalist, screenwriter, and writer. His sharp pen, however, often led to conflicts — even with Piłsudski’s regime itself. And then came 1939… This film tells the story of Mostowicz’s path: from literary triumph and resounding fame in Warsaw, through personal dramas and political persecution, to his tragic end in the autumn of 1939 on the Polish-Romanian border in Kuty on the Cheremosh. It was here, during the Soviet invasion, that he perished — according to one account, killed by machine-gun fire from a Soviet tank while defending the bridge across the river. This is not merely a story about war or politics. It is a tale of human dignity — about how, even in the darkest times, there remain people who quietly perform feats of courage. It is a story about the residents of Kuty who safeguarded the memory of the writer when entire eras tried to erase him from history. Join this journey into the past — to the town where the Cheremosh River still whispers the name of an author beloved by millions of readers around the world.
