Three individuals, including two missionaries and Mr. Choi Chun-gil, were arrested by North Korean authorities on espionage charges while residing in Dandong, China, and are currently being held in custody. Mr. Ju Won-mun is a South Korean national and a New York University student who is known to have entered North Korea last May and been arrested. The three individuals, including Missionary Kim Kuk-ki, who has already been detained in North Korea for two years, are serving life sentences of re-education by the North Korean authorities. North Korea framed them with espionage charges, claiming they attempted to collapse the North Korean regime and insulted the supreme leadership. North Korea has ignored the South Korean government's request for the release of these citizens and is forcibly detaining them while refusing repatriation. He conducted his missionary activities targeting North Koreans, using an apartment complex in downtown Dandong, where many North Koreans reside, as his base. The reporting team was able to collect evidence and testimonies indicating that Missionary Kim was abducted by spies sent by North Korea. Korean missionaries in the Dandong area who knew Missionary Kim testified that when he began his missionary work in North Korea, two spies were sent down to lure and abduct him by claiming that there were people in North Korea who wanted to see him. A North Korean woman who had actually worked with Missionary Kim also testified that she approached him to harm him under the orders of the North Korean State Security Department. Testimony also emerged that Missionary Kim Kuk-ki was lured and abducted by a spy sent by North Korea. It is alleged that a so-called "religious trader," who films or photographs inside North Korea and sells them to missionaries, approached Missionary Kim, lured him to North Korea, and abducted him.
