Sian Roberts: He Killed Her — Then Framed Her Ex-Boyfriend For It | Ep 6 | What The Killer Did Next
Her ex-boyfriend called 999. He'd found her body. He'd done life for murder before — and the real killer knew it. Sian Roberts was a 36-year-old hairdresser and mother-of-one from Cheetham Hill, Manchester. In November 2015, she was found stabbed to death at her home on St Helier's Drive in Higher Broughton. The man who discovered her body and called 999 was her former boyfriend, Joel Gordon. Police thought they had an open-and-shut case. Gordon had once served life for the 1997 knife murder of a teenager in Crumpsall. He'd done his time and been released — but to detectives standing over Sian's body, he was the obvious suspect. The real killer had counted on exactly that. The man who actually killed Sian was 53-year-old Glynn Williams — a figure already infamous in Manchester for entirely separate reasons. In 1990, Williams had been one of the ringleaders of the Strangeways prison riot, the longest prison riot in British history. He was among the last five rioters brought down from the rooftop after a 25-day siege. By 2015 he was a fixture in the local drug scene, where he and Sian had become friends. A witness later told the court Williams had been "madly in love" with her. Jurors heard that on the night Sian died, she may have confronted Williams over jewellery he had stolen from her. He stabbed her, left her body, and let her ex-boyfriend walk into the scene and call the police. Then, throughout the entire Manchester Crown Court trial, Williams' barrister kept pointing the finger at Gordon. Williams himself never gave evidence. The lead prosecutor described the case as "something of a whodunnit." It very nearly was. Williams was finally convicted and jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years. Sian's family had waited almost two years for justice. Hosted by Philip Glenister, What The Killer Did Next rewinds from the moment of arrest to show exactly how the killer behaved AFTER the murder — the silence, the lies, the cynical attempt to frame an innocent man, and the patient detective work that finally unravelled it.
