You sweat blood, work your fingers to the bone to provide them with everything you didnt have and then one day, before you know it, theyre gone out into the world to chase their dreams without so much as a postcard. Animal Kingdom used to rehearse at The Crypt back in the days when they were called Sofa Club. Twice a week, these ancient walls rang to the sweet melancholy of their shimmering indie pop. Ah, heaven. But then a big cheese at Warners lured them away with wine, women and a major record deal. The boys disappeared without trace, only to emerge last year with their new name, a spanking debut album and a future so bright it could power the National Grid. We always knew Animal Kingdom would make it, of course, but theres something very satisfying about watching the rest of the world see the light. The inkies have been positively drooling. Of their album, Signs And Wonders, the NME wrote, Achingly beautiful celestial indie Will have Sigur Rós quivering with envy. The Times reckoned it possessed, The sonic sweep and grandeur of early Radiohead, while indie bible The Fly described their live shows as, a resounding and cinematically cosmic experience. In the last few months, Richard, Wayne, Hamish and Jeff have played at the 02 Arena with Snow Patrol, been voted Best New Alternative Band on American iTunes and, only last week, their song Two By Two was made single of the week on 6Musics Breakfast Show. And now theyre back where it all began.
