I Finally Did It | Mines of Spain 100

Hello, my name is Nicholas Steel and I just became the youngest person ever to complete 16 100-mile foot races within a single calendar year! The Mines of Spain 100 was my grand finally for the goal & my second back-to-back-to-back weekends of 100-milers. 68 miles of goofin’ around. 32 miles of rain, mud, & chafing. Not a bad ratio! This course was mostly trail — ranging from grass and dirt to stone, wooden steps, and a little bit of asphalt. This year, it downpoured for the last 33 miles, turning the trails into pure mud. Up until then, it was smooth running. There are many things we can control as humans… and some we simply can’t! I’d highly recommend this course to both new and veteran ultrarunners. The aid stations were fully stocked with snacks and warm food, and the course itself is one not to miss — scenic, challenging, and a little technical! Thank you all for following along the journey this season. It’s been one to remember! I couldn’t do this without my crew, my family, or all of you supporting me. I truly feel honored and blessed to be able to run these trails with enthusiasm and the hope of becoming better each time. Though this may seem like a farewell, I can reassure you — this journey isn’t over — we’ve still got many, many miles ahead! Next up: a 200-miler in Wisconsin on November 7th — the tBunk Endurance Challenge — followed by another Backyard Ultra the weekend after. Stay tuned.
