“What an experience to write with Victor Young and then have your own song be the title song of a film.” ~Peggy Lee Peggy Lee co-wrote the eponymous theme of the 1954 film Johnny Guitar with Victor Young, “one of the most prolific and celebrated composers of film music” (Songwriters Hall of Fame). Directed by Nicholas Ray and starring Joan Crawford, the movie was released in August and went on to became a cult classic. As part of the promotion earlier in the summer, Peggy Lee performed the song for a live television broadcast (recorded on 16mm kinescope).
