A video of geologist Osiris de León has resurfaced on social media following the recent seismic activity in the region, recalling his 2023 warning about the possibility of the Dominican Republic experiencing an earthquake of up to magnitude 8.0. In that interview, the specialist explained that the country must strengthen prevention efforts, public education, and response protocols in the event of a major earthquake. During the conversation, De León detailed that the island has two geological faults capable of generating the most intense seismic activity, while other active structures produce events of lesser magnitude.
