He had joined the Nazi Party and the SS even before the Nazi seizure of power. In Munich, he established an intelligence service for the SS. In 1934, he moved to Berlin and also assumed leadership of the Prussian Secret State Police Office. As Heinrich Himmler's closest associate, Heydrich played a crucial role in directing the Nazi terror apparatus. As head of the Reich Security Main Office, Deputy Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, and organizer of the "Final Solution to the Jewish Question," he was one of the main figures responsible for the Nazi extermination policy during the Second World War. In his lecture, Robert Gerwarth analyzes Reinhard Heydrich's career and his role in the Nazi regime, as well as his portrayal as a martyr by Nazi propaganda after his assassination in Prague.
