He joined Ajahn Sumedho's community for the Rains Retreat as an anagarika in 1978. In November of that year he left for Wat Nong Pa Pong where he studied under the Venerable Ajahn Cha in Northeast Thailand. He became a novice monk in 1979 and a fully ordained bhikkhu in 1980 with Venerable Ajahn Cha as his preceptor. He is the author of many books on Buddhist theory and practice. From 1997 until 2002 Ajahn Jayasaro was the Abbot of Wat Pa Nanachat. Wat Pa Nanachat is a monastery in Northeast Thailand that provides traditional forest monastic training in English to people from around the world. He is now living in a hermitage at the foot of Khao Yai mountains in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand.
