Chemical/Laboratory Techniques: Vacuum filtration
Like a standard filtration, vacuum filtration is applied to separate a solid (product) from a liquid. The mixture of solid and liquid is poured through a filter paper in a Büchner funnel. The solid is trapped by the filter and the liquid is drawn through the funnel into the flask below, by a vacuum. By applying a vacuum, a faster separation of liquid and solid is obtained. Furthermore, dryer solids are achieved. This video was created by N.N.H.M. Eisink, PhD, and T.R.
