Deworm your dog today! Quad dewormer by Elanco.
Hi Everyone! My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. Today I am sharing about Quad dewormer by Elanco. I think this product is a great buy, because it is coving all the most common worms in the dog's intestinal tract. Always consult your veterinarian before starting any new medications. 1) Pyrantel Pamoate: Pyrantel pamoate is a commonly used anthelmintic (deworming medication) for dogs (and other animals) that treats common intestinal worms such as: Roundworms (e.g., Toxocara canis) Hookworms (e.g., Ancylostoma species) Paralyzes the worms’ muscles: The drug acts directly on the worms’ neuromuscular system (their muscles and nerves). It binds to receptors on the worm’s muscle cells and causes continuous stimulation — the muscles contract and cannot relax. This leads to spastic paralysis (the worms become immobilized). Worms let go and get expelled: Paralyzed worms can no longer cling to the intestinal wall, so they are dislodged and passed out of the dog’s body in the stool by normal gut movements. Works locally in the gut: Because pyrantel pamoate is poorly absorbed into the dog’s bloodstream, it mostly stays in the gastrointestinal tract where the worms live, which helps keep it safe for the dog at recommended doses. Pyrantel pamoate only affects adult worms in the intestine, not larvae that are still migrating or developing. For this reason, vets often recommend repeating treatment in 2–4 weeks — to catch worms that were larvae during the first dose but matured later. What to Expect After Treatment: After administering the medication, it’s common to see. Dead or paralyzed worms in the stool (sometimes alive but weak) Pyrantel pamoate doesn’t kill all worm types — it’s effective mainly against roundworms and hookworms, but not tapeworms or whipworms. ---------------------- 2) Praziquantel is a deworming medication that is highly effective against tapeworms in dogs, including: Dipylidium caninum (the flea-transmitted tapeworm) Taenia species (from eating prey or raw meat) Echinococcus species (important due to human health risk) How praziquantel kills worms (step by step) A. Causes calcium overload in the worm Praziquantel disrupts the tapeworm’s cell membranes, causing a sudden influx of calcium ions into the worm’s muscle cells. B. Triggers severe muscle contraction The calcium overload leads to: Intense, sustained muscle contraction, Loss of coordinated movement, This is called spastic paralysis—the worm can’t relax or function. Damages the worm’s outer surface Praziquantel damages this outer layer, exposing the worm to: Digestive enzymes, The dog’s immune defenses Worms die and are digested: Tapeworms treated with praziquantel are often broken down and digested. You may not see whole worms afterward. This is totally normal and doesn’t mean the medication didn’t work. Why praziquantel is safe for dogs: It targets flatworms specifically, not mammal cells. It is rapidly metabolized by the dog’s liver. When used at proper doses, it has a wide safety margin ------------ 3) Febantel is a broad-spectrum dewormer used in dogs to treat: Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworms It’s commonly found in combination dewormers (often paired with pyrantel and praziquantel) so one product can cover multiple worm types. How febantel works: Febantel doesn’t kill worms instantly. Instead, it starves them and stops them from reproducing, which leads to their death. After your dog swallows febantel, the body converts it into fenbendazole and oxfendazole, which are the real “active fighters.” It shuts down the worm’s energy supply Worms rely on tiny structures called microtubules inside their cells to: Absorb nutrients (especially glucose), Transport materials within the cell, Divide and reproduce, The active metabolites from febantel bind to tubulin, a protein needed to build microtubules. Worms slowly starve to death Always consult your vet regarding starting any new drugs even medications you find over the counter. Thanks for watching!!
