In March and April of 2026, we just completed a 53-day self-guided tour in Yunnan, including a 32-day road trip. The original plan was a 3,700-kilometer loop route encompassing Tiger Leaping Gorge, Shangri-La, Lincang, Jingmai Mountain, Pu'er, and Mojiang. Dali was originally just a short stop on our Yunnan road trip. We only intended to stay for a few days, but we ended up staying there for almost half a month. Come on, let's go! Spend a week in Kunming to adjust and regroup, while also applying for internet access, opening a bank account, and obtaining a temporary driver's license. March 16-18: Self-driving trip from Kunming via Anning to Chuxiong Yi Ancient Town March 19-21: Dali self-driving trip: Yunnanyi Ancient Town, Dali Erxi, Dali Ancient City, Xizhou Ancient Town March 22-29: Lijiang self-driving trip: Shuhe / Baisha / Lijiang Ancient Town | Lugu Lake | Lashi Lake | Back to Lijiang for relaxation March 30-April 6: Dali self-driving trip: Jianchuan / Shaxi / Shuanglang Ancient Town | Along Erhai East Road back to Erhai West Road for relaxation April 7-9: Chuxiong self-driving trip: Back to Chuxiong Yi Ancient Town for relaxation April 10-17: Self-driving trip back to the original itinerary: Yuxi Xinping | Honghe Shiping, Jianshui | Chengjiang Fuxian Lake, Chenggong Dianchi Lake, then back to Kunming to return the car April 18-29: Wandering around downtown Kunming (taking the subway/taxi) | Return to Taiwan We just completed a 53-day trip in Yunnan, including a 32-day road trip this March and April.
