Everything we spent on food in September as a family of 5 on a budget!

Here's a look at everything our UK based family spent in the month on our £500 family food budget... and what the meals in the final week of the month and budget actually looked like! Welcome back to The Whole Home where we aim to make sustainable, low footprint living feel a little less complicated, and a bit more budget friendly! In this video I’m taking a deep dive (with all the numbers) into everything we spent through the month to look at exactly where our food budget went through September. We’ll look at what our food budget is and what it includes, what food is doesn’t cover and why that’s important to us. Then the technicalities of managing numbers through the month (we have the best simple free system!) and we’ll go through every meal for the final week of the month and what we ate in those final meals to close the month on track! I used to feel so much shame in how much we spent, and frustration in not keeping up with a system for budgeting - we NEEDED to find a way that it could all work while keeping to our values. (Now, why I felt that shame and my husband didn’t is a larger story of gender roles and responsibilities that we’re trying to take down in our home but it’s sometimes set in so deeply even when we don’t want it to be. It’s so much deeper than a food budget!) Now we have a great system for staying on track, not feeling shame, embracing the choices as a family, and working together to be there we want and need to be.
