Hampden Estate "The Younger" LROK 5yo Jamaican Rum review

Time for the actual, non-tiny bottle we popped after coming home with our newborn. A Caroni, you say? Old Stitzel-Weller stock? Maybe a Port Ellen, or some priceless prewar Armagnac? Nope, we went with this: Hampden Estate "The Younger" LROK 5 Year Old Single Jamaican Rum, 2016-2021 (Pot-distilled molasses, wild fermented, tropically aged in ex-bourbon; 314.8 g/hlpa esters; 47% ABV), 87/100 Yup, it's the newest new offering from Hampden, uncrowned king of Jamaica. This stuff is way cheaper than the recent LROK 2010 wide release (   • Hampden Great House 2021, versus LROK 2010...  ), which is nice, but it's not as good as the old LROK 2010 single cask for New York (   • Sh*t, Suck, Good, Great, and 100-Point Sca...  ) and it's also not as good as, say, Great House or the magnificent Overproof (   • Hampden Estate Overproof Rum review  ). What it is, is a lovely rum that you can throw into a glass without having to worry about it too much. Which is also nice sometimes.
