The Kitsune - The Legendary Fox Spirits From Japanese Folklore | Japanese Mythology Explained
In Japanese mythology, the Kitsune is a legendary fox spirit also known as Yokai that has the ability to shapeshift. Because of their close association to the Shinto Kami Inari, people from Japan started venerating these magical creatures as they would do for a Kami. The Kitsune is often depicted as a fox with one or multiple tails, going from one to nine tails total. It's believed that a Kitsune gains a new tail every hundred year along their appearance, and their strength and wisdom. After a thousand of years, a kitsune is said to obtain its ninth tail, subsequently becoming a Tenko or a celestial fox known by the name of Kyubi no kitsune. Like many aspect of Japanese culture, the myth of the kitsune is said to have originated in China, and has been relayed into Japanese culture through merchants who told tales of a nine tailed fox called Huli Jing, a fox spirit who would later be known as Kyubi no Kitsune in Japanese Folklore. According to Japanese folk tales, meeting a kitsune was not always pleasant, because they were also cunning and mischievous spirits. However, they were two main categories of foxes; the Zenko or benevolent spirits associated with Inari and the Yako or bad foxes. The kitsune are also known to have had intermarried with humans and bore their children, even though in most of these stories the kitsune is often chased away after her identity has been revealed. Stories regarding the famous are very well present in Japanese culture, whether in the literature, religious, cuisine and even in the animation culture. ---------------------------------- 🔴► Subscribe if you like this content, which allows the channel to grow ► https://bit.ly/2Zf0KpF 🔴►Listen on Spotify► https://open.spotify.com/show/0WdWsgQ... 🔴►Listen on Anchor.fm► https://anchor.fm/afro-emperor-myths 🔴► Music by Adrian von Ziegler / @adrianvonziegler Between worlds • Japanese Fantasy Music - Between Worlds 🔴► DONT CLICK THIS 😈 https://bit.ly/2Zf0KpF 🔴► Sources of images & Artists Featured -- 0-Kyuubs-0 https://www.deviantart.com/0-kyuubs-0... -- Shizen1102 https://www.deviantart.com/shizen1102 -- 🔴► Contact me if I have used your Artwork, and the proper credits will be given Thank you! 🔴► Check some Playlists made for you. --► African Mythology Explained • African Myths Explained --► Egyptian Mythology Explained • Egyptian Mythology Explained --► Irish & Celtic Mythology Explained • Irish & Celtic Folklore Explained --► Greek Mythology Explained • Greek Mythology Explained --► Norse Mythology Explained • Norse Mythology Explained --► Japanese Mythology Explained • Japanese Folklore Explained --► Hindu Mythology/Religion Explained • Hindu Mythology Explained --► Mythical Bestiary & Creatures • Mythical Creatures --► Storytelling & Urban Legend • Storytelling & Urban Legends --► Afro Emperor Complete List • Afro Emperor ALL Myths And Legends 🔴► Share the video Anywhere you possibly can, and enjoy with your friends. 🔴► SUBSCRIBE To our Channel Afro Emperor ► https://bit.ly/2Zf0KpF #Kitsune #Foxspirits #japanesemythology #folklore #history #mythology #japan #kyubi #tamamonomae
